If you use IC Markets on MetaTrader 5, set up the connection from the Journal with your server, login and investor password. The investor password provides read-only account access. For a cTrader account, follow the cTrader guide.
Connecting IC Markets in brief
- Open the Journal, go to Storici (track records) and select Crea un nuovo storico (create a new track record).
- In Crea Nuovo Storico, complete Nome (name), Saldo Iniziale (initial balance), Valuta (currency) and Tags Template.
- Enable Connetti Account in Tempo Reale (connect a live account) and select MetaTrader5.
- Enter the account’s Server, Login and Investor Password.
- Read the connection terms and confirm with Crea Storico (create track record).

Use your account’s server
In Server, enter the server name for the MT5 account you want to connect. Do not use the broker’s general name or copy the server from a different account.
Check costs and net results
The first time you connect, compare three or four trades with your MT5 history: size, prices, commissions, swaps and net result.

On accounts where commission is charged separately from the spread, fees weigh most on strategies with small targets. The Journal shows their effect on your average result and Profit Factor.
Analyse your strategies and discipline
Once the account is synced, use tags and notes to separate setups and to distinguish trades taken according to plan from discipline errors. Two trades with the same result can tell very different stories. Our guide to analysing your trading journal covers statistics, filters and the calendar.
Alternative: file import
File import follows the platform used by your IC Markets account. Use the guide for MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 or cTrader and select the platform’s provider in Importa da file (import from file).
The Journal and the Lot Calculator are separate tools
To prepare a new trade, use the Lot Calculator: enter your IC Markets contract specifications and calculate size from your stop. The Journal's MT5 connection doesn't pass your account's specifications to the calculator, so enter them manually.

Can the connection place trades on my IC Markets account?
No. With the investor password, TotalTrade has read-only access, used for journaling, statistics and review.
Can I connect more than one IC Markets account?
Yes, create a track record for each account. The number available depends on your plan: one on Free, three on Basic, unlimited on Pro and Ultra.
I trade IC Markets on cTrader. What changes?
In Crea Nuovo Storico (new track record), enable the live connection, choose cTrader and use Seleziona Account (select account). Follow the cTrader guide.
